Facebook Lookalike Audience — When Can I Create A Lookalike Audience? | TBS #234

Podcast

In order to create a Facebook lookalike audience you first need to have a custom audience that you can use as source data.

There’s two different scenarios:

1) You upload a customer email list

One great way of creating a lookalike audience is by uploading a customer email list to Facebook. If you’re running a Shopify store for example, you can just export your email list from within Shopify.

And then upload the CSV file to Facebook.

2) You can use the data in your Facebook pixel

Another great way to create a lookalike audience is by using the data in your Facebook pixel. This is especially awesome because you can create lookalike audiences for your adds to cart, initiate checkouts and so forth. It’s a bit more complicated, but it’s very effective.

The only catch is that you need to have at least 100 people in your custom audience. Not only that, but those 100 people also need to be from the country in which you’re creating the lookalike audience.

So if you want to create a lookalike audience in the UK, you need to have a minimum of 100 people from the UK in your custom audience.

And if you want to create a lookalike in Germany, 100 Germans etc.

Furthermore, Facebook doesn’t recognize every email address and the Facebook pixel data isn’t always accurate either. So in my personal experience, you need a lot more than 100 people in your source file or pixel in order to create the lookalike audience.

In other words: To use lookalike audiences you need a somewhat successful store and your Facebook pixel needs a lot of data.

I recommend starting with PPE ads and trying to get as many adds to cart and purchases as possible, and once your campaign gains some traction, start creating different custom and lookalike audiences.
