Facebook Ad Targeting — How To Find Your Target Audience On Facebook | TBS #203

Podcast

When you’re starting off with Facebook ads, it’s usually a good idea to target specific Facebook pages rather than broad, general interests.

Targeting specific Facebook pages gives you more control.

You can reach exact niches and fan communities, you can spy on their engagement and behaviour, you can look at comments and what posts are getting the most shares and so many other things.

However, here’s the thing:

Facebook doesn’t allow you to target every fan page.

I haven’t been able to figure out exactly what Facebook’s criteria is in order to make a page available for targeting. The size of the page is one of the key factors I’ve noticed. But apart from that, it seems that only around 30%-50% of large pages can be targeted with ads.

That’s still pretty good and you’ll find lots of pages that you can target in most niches. So don’t be discouraged if a page isn’t targetable.

You can easily find out if you can target a page with Facebook’s audience insights tool. Just type in the exact name of a page in the “Interest” field in audience insights and if the page shows up (in the form of a drop down menu), then you can target the page.

If the “Interest” field jumps back to being blank it means you can’t target that page. So just keep searching for pages in your niche and check if you can target them. Spend a few hours doing this.

At the end you’ll be left with a list of pages you can target.

And you can just get rid of the one’s you can’t target.

Another simple trick is to create a spreadsheet with all niches, product ideas and pages you can target. This makes it easy to stay organized and keep track of any products, niches or pages.
