How To Become A Freelancer — Make Money As A Freelancer And Get More Clients | TBS #068

Podcast

If you’re a freelancer you really have two jobs. Most people don’t like this fact, and that’s why so many people struggle with freelancing.

In a regular 9-to-5 job you only have one job.

But as a freelancer you are:

1) A technician
2) A salesperson

Most people who start a freelancing career are great technicians, they’re experts in their field and know how to deliver results. When you work in a regular job, being a technician is more than enough. But as a freelancer you’re also a salesperson by definition.

Why?

Because you have to bring in all the clients AND deliver the work. That means you have two important jobs, if you like it or not.

If you don’t have clients, who will you work for? You need a way to capture new clients on a month or weekly basis. You need to have a method to do it. For example: you can create a personal brand that will help you attract more clients.

However, any freelancers don’t like to think of themselves as sales people.

And that’s where the problem really starts.

See, you already ARE a salesperson by definition if you’re a freelancer. Because you need to bring in all new clients yourself. The only question is if you’re gonna be a great one or a shitty one.

My tip for all freelancers is to start cultivating and strengthening the salesperson within you by educating yourself a bit every day.

Study salesmanship, marketing and advertising. You can get a few basics down that will get you further than most of your peers.

Don’t neglect the sales part. You make more money by charging more and/or by increasing the number of clients you work for.

Keep up the hustle!

Thanks for the question Jasenka Anić. I hope it helps.
