Shopify Online Store — My Personal Shopify Review And Why I Use Shopify | TBS #212

Podcast

Every once in a while people ask me why I choose Shopify over other e-commerce platforms, since WooCommerce would be cheaper.

The answer is always: It’s more convenient.

Seven years ago I built my first e-commerce store using Joomla. It took me a couple of months to build everything. Then my website got hacked two times, I had some technical issue almost every second week and updating and fixing everything caused a lot of headache.

WordPress is better than Joomla, but you still have to install it on your own server, update everything to the current version, fix any bugs, make sure your site is safe and secure from hackers, backup your entire store in case of a crash, deal with quite a lot of HTML code if you want to customize things and all of that just takes more time.

Although I might be able to save $29 per month by using WooCommerce, the lack of flexibility, the time I loose and the headaches I’ll get from maintaining a store on my own server will cost me more money down than just using something like Shopify.

Time is money, and dealing with technical issues, backing up my site, updating plugins and software and dealing with compatibility issues will end up costing me more money if you look at it long-term.

The beauty of Shopify is that it’s a third-party SaaS which means they take care of security, updating everything and maintaining things.

I can just sign up and have an almost done-for-you store ready.

Within 2-4 hours I can go live and start running ads.

Plus there’s many other reasons why I choose Shopify. For one, it’s just more robust and user-friendly than WooCommerce. It’s easier to navigate, customize, access and fulfill orders and stay organized.

Another reason is that I can create a staff account for my VA’s and give them remote access to Shopify without revealing my admin.

Plus they have an awesome mobile app that dings every time I make a sale, which is not worth $29 per month in itself, but it almost is 🙂 Plus once your store starts making consistent sales, Shopify won’t be an expense anymore, it will be an investment that makes money.

So after reading this, ask yourself what’s cheaper:

WooCommerce or Shopify?
