Drop Shipping Strategy — How To Handle Products From Multiple Suppliers | TBS #214

Podcast

If you run a drop shipping store and list multiple products from different suppliers, there’s a few challenges that might arise.

When a customer places an order on your store and buys two or three different products from different suppliers, they usually expect to receive one package. However, on AliExpress there’s no way to send out one package with products from different wholesale suppliers.

These wholesale suppliers are usually in completely different locations and they have their own fulfillment and distribution centres.

So there’s no way around your customer getting multiple packages.

Now, here’s the way I deal with this:

I just go to AliExpress.com and place the order for each item with each supplier. I don’t even send out an email telling the customer that his shipment will be split into multiple packages or anything.

Personally, I like to keep my customer support inbound.

Meaning I don’t like to reach out to customers and tell them stuff unless they inquire about it. I only provide tracking numbers and information about the order status if someone requests it. And of course some people do request and inquire about these things.

I choose to do it this way because I want to have an inbound and not outbound customer support, I want to keep my business simple.

However, that’s not necessarily the “best” way to do it.

If you’re really serious and you have all the time int he world to focus on your drop shipping business, you should send out an email whenever someone orders multiple items from different suppliers.

Just craft a little email template for this type of scenario.

Tell them their order was split into multiple shipments and might arrive at slightly different times. You can also make them feel more secure by saying the first shipment is about to leave the distribution centre. Just set up the right expectations while reinforcing their trust.

And most importantly: Don’t overthink it or let this “multiple items from different suppliers” thing hold you back in any way. Don’t turn things into problems that can be easily solved and don’t sweat the future.
