Shopify Facebook Pixel — Facebook Pixel Conversion Tracking For Multiple Stores | TBS #166

Podcast

You can only have one Facebook pixel per advertising account, which results in many people asking me if it’s possible to track multiple products, niches and stores with just one Facebook pixel.

And of course, people ask me how to go about this.

In this post I want to share three different ways to track multiple stores and bring some light into this rather confusing topic.

So here we go.

1) Create a new ad account

If you have a personal Facebook account, you can only have one ad account associated with it. However, you can additionally sign up for business.facebook.com and get yourself the free business manager.

With the business manager you can set up two additional ad accounts, which means you now have a total of three ad accounts.

In a perfect world, you would run three different stores using three different ad accounts. This gives you a clean cut and allows you to track only relevant data for each store in your pixel. It’s the cleanest and most safe way to run multiple stores using Facebook pixels.

However, what if you have four or ten Shopify stores?

2) Run multiple stores in one ad account

You ca also track multiple products, niches and stores in one ad account and “hope” the Facebook pixel will segment the data correctly in the background. This can work out really well.

However, I suggest testing it and seeing if you get results.

If you see that your second and third niche don’t work out when you optimize for conversions, then it might be better to go with option number one and use a separate advertising account for it. Just give it a try and see how it works out for you. Maybe it will, maybe it won’t.

The downside of this method is that nobody really knows exactly how the Facebook pixel works. Facebook’s algorithm is a bit “magical”, as we don’t have full transparency and knowledge as of how it works.

This makes it hard to know if and how well your pixel is working.

This brings me to option number three.

3) Use custom conversions to improve tracking

Within your Facebook advertising account you can set up something called custom conversions. These are specific tracking rules for certain domains and landing pages. With this feature, you can create a custom conversion for adds to cart or purchases for each single store and niche which will help you to “manually” segment the data.

You can then keep purchases and adds to cart apart for each niche and store and it gives you more flexibility and options to work with.

There’s also a plugin called Trackify that you can use:

I personally don’t use it but I have friends who use it to have more control over the Facebook pixel events and segmenting the data correctly. So this is also something you could give a try.
