Secrets Of Success — Why Most People Fail At Business And How To Win Long-Term | TBS #325

Podcast

It’s an undeniable reality that most people who start a business fail. I believe that’s the case for most things in life including getting in shape, learning to play an instrument and becoming an athlete.

The odds are just against you in life and business.

So why is that?

I think we can expand this question into a more philosophical perspective and look at patterns in nature and the universe as a whole. I don’t mean to turn this topic into some sort of esoteric mental masturbation, but let’s take a look at how things in nature work.

First of all, your odds of becoming a human were extremely low. Only one out of millions of sperm cells successfully makes it into the egg.

If you look at turtle hatchlings, you’ll be shocked to discover that only one out of 1,000 make it into the ocean and survive to adulthood. All of the others die, don’t make it and are simply weeded out by nature.

The bottom line is:

Nature is raw, brutal and ruthless.

Everything on this planet is and has always been a constant fight for survival, in some form or another. And I’m not saying this to make you feel negative or depressed. In fact, in order to have a positive outlook on life, you first need to honestly confront the reality of our existence.

And the truth is that nobody owes you anything.

The universe, nature, mankind and the economy don’t owe you shit. Thinking that success is somehow granted to you, or given to you, is a delusional mistake that will create false expectations and failure.

You have to understand that success is not the default. Failure is the default. And it’s crucial you understand this to prepare adequately.

If you’re trying to build a business you’ll have to beat the odds.
By facing reality and getting rid of any delusions, you can set yourself up for success because you know what to expect. Understand the grandiosity of the battle that’s lying in front of you. Respect the fact that so many others have failed before you. And then emotionally and mentally prepare for a tough, long, ruthless and hard journey.

The more realistic you are, the better you can prepare yourself and the more internal resources you can activate to push through it. Most people simply fail because they underestimate how hard it will be.

Never forget that 99% of people fail at most things in life.

And if you want to be on the side of the 1%, it’s going to be tough.
You’ll have to persist, persevere, be patient and stop complaining.

Becoming successful is a mental and psychological task for the most part. It’s not about tactics, techniques or strategies. It’s about mindset, resilience, resourcefulness and having a big enough reason “why”.

At the end of the day it all comes down to this:

How bad do you want it?

And do you have whatever it takes?

There’s the people who will do whatever it takes to become successful. No matter how hard it is, they’ll never give up. And then there’s everyone else who will give up, quit, complain and fail. Now it’s entirely up to you to decide which one you’re going to be.
