Financial Intelligence for Entrepreneurs — How To Be Financially Responsible | TBS #071

Podcast

One thing I wish I had learned from a mentor when I started out as an entrepreneur is how to be more financially intelligent with money. Unfortunately I had to learn at my own expense.

I got really good at sales and marketing.

But I wasn’t very good at keeping the money I made. And that didn’t work in my favor.

During the years I’ve come along way. I’ve become better at saving. I can say that I’ve improved my relationship with money. That’s one of the things I learned in my entrepreneur journey. But I learned it the hard way.

Here’s something to remember:

Learning how to save money is an equally important skill as learning how to make money. Learning how to make money is kind of a prerequisite for being able to learn how to save that money. That’s for sure.

You need to know how to save money. And sometimes that means knowing how to spend money in the right places. Investing your money, opposed to spending it, is also a way to save money. How many times did you buy something with poor quality, and then months later had to buy the same thing or an upgraded version of it?

Anyway – I guess in the early stages of my business I was overly focused on marketing and sales which caused some issues. But we all make mistakes. And that’s fine. 😉

That’s the beauty of getting rich relatively “slow”.

You can learn as you go along and your losses won’t be too big, so you can correct your mistakes, become smarter with the new money that you make and gradually evolve into a more mature person.

The better you become at saving, the faster you become wealthier, and the longer you stay wealthy.
