Work Ethic Of Successful People — How Much Should An Entrepreneur Work | TBS #174

Podcast

I recently got a question from one of my followers who asked how many hours an aspiring entrepreneur should work on average.

So here are my thoughts.

First of all, as an entrepreneur you don’t trade your time and energy in a linear fashion for money. It’s a “factory worker mindset” to want to be compensated for an exact amount of time invested.

That’s a typical 9-to-5 job mentality.

I work for a set amount of time, and I can expect a certain amount of money in return. Everything is measured based on hourly wages, you check in with time stamps and it’s all super accurate. However, if you want to be an entrepreneur you have to shift paradigms.

As an entrepreneur there is no set or “average” amount of time you should work. The mere act of asking for instructions on how many hours one should work, comes from this old factory worker mindset.

You can work as much or as little as you want.

There is no “should”, there is no boss that tells you when to start working and when to stop working or how hard you have to work.

You’re alone now, and it’s all up to you 🙂

So the real questions you should be asking yourself are:

1) How fast do I want to see results?
2) How successful do I want to become?
3) How much money do I want to make?
4) What impact do I want to make on the world?

The answers to those questions will determine how many hours and how hard you should be working. Obviously, the harder and more you work, the more results you will produce in the long-run.

Your effort and hustle is pretty much the only thing you can control.

You can’t snap your fingers and become more talented or more intelligent or reverse any flaws you have. But you can work harder.

How hard you work is 100% in your control.

If you’re just starting out and you need to generate cash flow, you probably should work way on the upper end of daily hours. I’m talking about 12-16 hours a day of hustle and focus. Learning to work hard without anyone telling you have to, is so crucial.

And as I said, the more you work, the more results you’ll get.
