Shopify Marketing — Two Shopify Apps To Create Urgency And Social Proof | TBS #219

Podcast

Two of the most important psychological triggers you can build into your Shopify marketing strategy are urgency and social proof.

And luckily there’s two Shopify apps that do exactly that.

1) Hurrify

With Hurrify you can add countdown timers to your product pages. Now, most people use this plugin in an unethical way by saying something like “This offer ends when the counter hits zero”.

And then the counter hits zero and nothing happens.

In my opinion that’s too deceptive.

I prefer adding a countdown timer to my product pages and setting the timer to count down from 12 minutes. However, I do not mention what will happen when the counter hits zero. I don’t mention at all that something will happen when and if the counter hits zero.

So basically I just have a “clock” or a countdown on my page, but I don’t make any false claims or deceive people with lies.

Creating urgency with Hurrify will almost certainly increase conversions. So you should be getting more adds to cart and sales for the same amount of clicks you’re getting from Facebook ads.

2) Recent Sales Notification

This is a Shopify app that allows you to create social proof on your store. The plugin shows a little popup notification in the corner of the browser with the most recent orders and who ordered the item.

So for example, the notification will be along these lines:

“Someone in Orange County just bought this item 20 minutes ago”

The app will grab real-time sales from the last few hours and days and display them on your store. However, since the notifications are popping up every few seconds, it creates the sense of a buying frenzy. Although the sales notifications are spread over quite a long time, the sales notifications are displayed every few seconds.

This makes it seem like people are buying on your store every few seconds.

It creates a feeling of urgency and trust in your visitors.

If all these people are ordering, then I should order, too.

These apps won’t fix all your problems though. So if you’re selling a bad item and targeting the wrong people, adding urgency and social proof won’t magically make the sales fly in from nowhere. However, if you’re selling a hot item to a hungry crowd, it will certainly help.

Add these two plugins if you want to get more adds to cart and purchases from the same amount of clicks you’re getting.
