Shopify Facebook Targeting — How To Find Your Target Audience On Facebook | TBS #146

Podcast

If you want to target people based on very specific criteria, you can easily do that using Facebook’s narrow audience feature.

You’ll find the narrow audience setting in the ad set.

Right under the “Detailed Targeting” field there is a small hyperlink called “Narrow Audience”. This field allows you to add additional interests to your ad set. Now Facebook will only show the ad set to people who like the primary interest and the second one.

This makes it really easy to narrow down your audience and target very specific user groups. Let me explain what I mean.

If you wanted to target people living in the USA, who love cats and have Cuban parents, you can set the ad set country to “United States of America”. Then target cat pages in the “Detailed Targeting” field and add cuban community pages in the “Narrow Audience” field.

Now your ad sets will be shown to people who live in the USA, who like cats and probably have Cuban parents or relatives.

Do you get the idea?

If you only want to target people with two nationalities, then it’s even easier. You don’t even have to narrow down the interests. All you have to do is set the primary nationality as the country.

And then search for fan pages and communities in the language of the second nationality (for example Spanish, Norwegian, German and so forth). Add these fan pages to the “Detailed Targeting” field. So now you’re reaching people living in the US who speak Spanish, which is likely their second nationality.

I recently ran an advertising campaign for a client.

We found out that our ideal audience is Spanish speaking people living in the United States. So we set the United States as the country in the ad set and targeted specifically Spanish fan pages and communities for Spanish people living in the United States.

It’s actually pretty simple once you understand the process. It takes a bit of creativity and testing, but it’s really no rocket science.
