Selling Marketing Services — Do You Need A Website To Sell Marketing Services? | TBS #321

Podcast

One of my subscribers is interested in building his own marketing service business and running ads on behalf of his clients.

He was wondering if having a business website is important.

Here’s the short answer:

It doesn’t matter.

The amount of clients I get for my own marketing services from my website is extremely small. In fact, I think I only ever got two clients directly from my marketing agency website. I mainly have the site as a branding and positioning tool, but not to actually get new clients.

Most of my clients come from me networking with business owners, making friends with successful entrepreneurs and then pitching them my services and negotiating a deal with them that suits us both.

There are really only two things that you need to master in order to run a successful marketing service business or digital agency.

1) Getting new clients

In order to get the party started you need to get some first clients. The fastest way to get those first clients is by reaching out to your own network and getting referrals from friends, family or relatives.

And the second best way is by networking with business owners.

There’s a gazillion groups on Facebook and LinkedIn related to business. And they’re all packed with entrepreneurs. Most of them are wannabe entrepreneurs, but some of them are making six-figures or seven-figures a year. And those are the one’s you want to target.

It can also be helpful to buy business programs because most of them come with close Facebook groups and there’s usually some successful business owners and opportunities for you there.

2) Keeping clients happy

The second most important aspect of running a little marketing agency or selling marketing services is keeping clients happy.

Once you have clients on board, it’s crucial to keep them happy.

One way of keeping them happy is by doing your best to get them great results. Apart from that, you need to offer an incredible service, be there for them, check in with them and make it a great experience.

I recommend charging your clients on a retainer basis, so you can generate consistent cash flow every month. But in order for that cash flow to come in every month from your existing clients, you need to make sure you keep them happy by offering them a great service.

As you can see, having your own website isn’t part of any of this. It doesn’t matter if you have your own website or not. As long as you’re good at networking, selling and keeping people happy, all is good.
