Some of you might know that my first business ever was selling rap beats to artists, which they could buy, download and use.

The beauty about selling digital products is that you don’t have to deal with stock, shipping, fulfillment, overhead costs and other things that come with a traditional e-commerce business selling physical items. And that’s already a plus when starting a business. It’s easier to bootstrap.

However, if you’re planning to sell digital products, I would try and stay away from the “information” market as there’s easier markets.

The information market is overloaded in my opinion. You better off finding a niche market and selling them different products.

Try and sell something that people can download and use practically.

Here are some examples:

– WordPress Plugins and WordPress Themes
– Licensing Music and Pictures
– Designer or Music Producer Kits & Packs
– Wallpapers
– Software

There are tons of markets to sell digital products. I give you a few here. But there are much more. Just use your imagination.

The same marketing principles apply to selling digital products. I would probably focus heavily on social media marketing and content marketing. Plus, also building an email list by giving away a lead magnet.

Then I’d run special giveaways and launches to that email list to monetize and get repeat customers. I would probably try and create a monthly subscription service to increase my lifetime customer value. Making my life and business model easier.

This is how I act when selling digital products online. You should do your market research. And after finding a market, you should use the marketing principles to establish credibility. Then getting the sale will be a much cleaner and effective process.
