Just like with any merchant account or advertising account, you don’t have any actual control over this. There’s countless horror stories of PayPal accounts, Stripe accounts, eBay accounts, Facebook ad accounts and so forth being shut down without any notice.
Often you don’t even get an explanation from these companies and are completely left in the dark as of why your account was banned.
At the end of the day, you can’t control it. You better plan ahead, so you don’t get caught off guard.
So here’s your best bet:
1) Educate yourself about the terms and conditions of these services, and play by the rules. Don’t breach any copyright, trade marks, policies and guidelines. In terms of PayPal, keep your refund rates and disputes low and always collect tracking numbers.
2) Create a backup plan for the worst case scenario. One is the most dangerous number in business and if your business relies on just one pillar, when that pillar crumbles, your business falls with it. Always have more assets to rely on.
Make sure you plan well in advance what you’d do if your account got shut down:
How are you going to accept payments?
How are you going to make money?
What steps to take after they shut down your account?
How are you going to change your business model?
Dig your well before you’re thirsty, have a backup plan in place before you need it and prepare for the worst case scenario.
It can seem a waste of time to plan for an “unlikely” situation. Nobody thinks they are, or that they will, breach any contract terms. But sometimes companies can be very picky. You will be relieved that you took some time to design a backup plan when you’re account gets blocked.
