Outsourcing Tips — When To Get A Virtual Assistant And What To Outsource | TBS #181

Podcast

There’s a lot of confusion regarding hiring virtual assistants, what tasks you should outsource and when you should get support.

Generally speaking, you don’t “need” a virtual assistant.

A lot of people think they need a virtual assistant because they see other people having them. But the truth is, you don’t need to get a virtual assistant for the sake of having one or to feel important.

The reason I and other people use VA’s is because we have too much stuff on our table already and we can’t do it all alone.

There are so many tasks in my business that are important but I simply don’t have enough time do them myself. Turning my videos into podcast episodes is one, or fulfilling my drop shipping orders. Those are important tasks, but I don’t have time to do them.

Why?

Because I’m focusing on other high-leverage tasks like creating videos, advertising, attending meetings with clients, having Skype calls, checking in with coaching clients and responding to questions.

Certain tasks in my business can’t be done by someone else.

For example: My private coaching clients want to speak with me, not with my virtual assistant. When there’s a problem with a campaign of one of my service business clients that I’m responsible for, I need to check in with them and make sure things are resolved smoothly.

And when I need new clients, I’m the best at selling.

It would be stupid to outsource these high-leverage tasks like advertising, selling, marketing, communicating with high-ticket clients. I’m best at doing that, and it’s what generates most of the money.

So I gotta be the one focusing on that.

And then there’s a gazillion other tasks that surround my business such as technical things, spinning my content, fulfilling orders, doing customer support, compiling lists, transferring stores, managing websites, uploading and transferring files and similar things.

Although all those tasks are important, they aren’t high-leverage.

They consume a lot of time and energy but they don’t directly create cash flow or grow my business. So I need someone to do those tasks, and they are important tasks, but I can’t do it all myself.

That’s why having great and effective virtual assistants and people on your team is so important. At some point, you need to outsource.

However, if you have no real business and no leverage right now, then maybe it’s too early for you to get a virtual assistant. If you’re sitting around watching Game of Thrones and have a ton of time where you do nothing, getting a virtual assistant would be stupid.

Don’t get a virtual assistant just because you’re lazy and don’t want to do the tasks yourself. Getting a VA is a strategic decision that only makes sense if you are already productive and just can’t do more.
