How To Motivate Yourself— Carefully Select What Influences You Let Into Your Life | TBS #231

Podcast

If you’re having a hard time taking action and doing the work you know you should be doing, you probably lack the right motivation.

In my early twenties, I had a lot of limiting beliefs.

I didn’t think it was possible to make money on your own, to be financially free and make a living from what you enjoy doing. I believed the “rich” were somehow cut from a different cloth.

Ever since I was a kid I had been conditioned by society, my parents, my teachers, movies, advertisements and my friends to think a certain way about money and life. And before being able to change my life, I had to “unlearn” these years of negative conditioning.

So what I did is selectively block out any influences that didn’t support my dream, while only letting in positive and motivational influences.

Since everything around me was “against” me, I needed to…

1) Read motivational books
2) Listen to motivational audio books
3) Watch motivational YouTube videos

I used to go to the gym and listen to Tony Robbin’s audio books and pump myself up with motivation. I read biographies and personal development books about success, money and finances.

Basically I brainwashed myself with personal development stuff.

I did this for so long until I had enough motivation built up to start taking action. This is what kick-started my success in the early days.

Once I started to take action, I then got my first results.

And before I knew it, I entered the “success spiral”.

From that point on motivation came naturally from within, because I’d see the fruits of my own work which would in return would re-motivate me and make me work even harder. And by working harder I’d get more results which would re-enforce the initial motivation I had.

But when I started out I had to build up my motivation externally by reading books, listening to audio books and watching videos.

And I recommend doing the same 🙂
