How To Be Productive Everyday — Beat Procrastination And Get Into The Zone | TBS #270

Podcast

Don’t wait until you’re in the zone, inspired and motivated to sit down and do the work you have to do in order to live your dream life.

That’s how amateurs live their lives.

They go playing football on Sundays, but only if they feel like it.

The hobby athlete trains when he feels energised, the amateur writer writes when he has a good day, and the newbie entrepreneur works on his business on days where he feels inspired and motivated.

However, the professional shows up every single day to practice, study and do the work that has to be done no matter how he feels.

It’s the difference between being reactive and proactive.

We all have a “muse” that inspires us.

But only amateurs wait for their “muse” to show up before they sit down and do the work. Successful people are proactive and show up themselves, every single day, even if the muse doesn’t show up.

On some days inspiration and motivation are there and on others they aren’t. But since you can’t control your “muse” or your feelings, you need to be proactive and focus on the one thing that you can control. And the only thing you can control is your own personal actions.

Successful people understand this and show up daily to practice their craft and do the necessary work despite of how they’re feeling.

And guess what usually happens?

Inspiration and motivation start flowing as a side-effect. When you are proactive and take action, you build momentum and start getting into the zone. Your “muse” shows up once you show up consistently.

So here’s the difference between amateurs and professionals.

The amateur operates like this:

Inspiration + Motivation + Muse –> Taking Action

Successful people operate like this:

Taking Action –> Inspiration + Motivation + Muse

If you understand the difference and start remodelling your life from a reactive one to a proactive one, there’s nothing that can hold you back. You will literally have full control over many crucial aspects of your life and you’ll be able to achieve things you’ve never dreamed of.

I don’t often give book recommendations.

But if you want to change your life I recommend reading Steven Pressfield’s excellent book called “The War of Art”.

It’s the best and most practical productivity book I’ve ever read and it turned my life around more than five years ago. If you want to learn how to live a more proactive life, add it to your book shelve.
