Drop Shipping On Aliexpress — Quality Control And Dealing With Broken Items | TBS #262

Podcast

If you’re drop shipping products from China, the quality isn’t always the best in the world. Sometimes customers report that items break after using or wearing them for a while, so let’s address that.

First of all, that’s the type of products you’re selling.

You are selling relatively cheap Chinese wholesale products to consumers, so it’s normal that the items aren’t super high-quality.

You can’t expect this to be the case and need to have the right expectations. This is one downside of drop shipping from China, since the product quality isn’t always as good, you’ll always get a few customers reporting that the item broke or stopped working.

Here’s how to deal with that:

1) Do some quality control before selling the item

Look at the customer reviews and if you want, order an item and ship it to your own address so you can check it out and use it yourself.

Make sure you pre-select good suppliers with decent items.

If you find out that a certain item gets a lot of negative reviews and most people report issues with the product, such as the item breaking or not working after a while, this might be a red flag for you.

2) Educate your customers after the purchase

If you know an item has certain issues and there’s a list of common reasons why the item breaks.

Make sure to educate your customers.

If they order a necklace that frequently breaks when worn at sleep or while showering, educate your customers and give them instructions on how to maintain and use the item to prevent it from breaking.

You’ll usually only discover the reasons why items break by your customers reporting it to you and complaining. So if someone complains and says the item broke because of this or that, don’t get angry or feel bad. Instead, refund them or send a replacement item and then educate future customers and give them instructions.

This will help you dramatically reduce the amount of items that break, lower your complaint rate and if someone does have an item that breaks you can ask them if they followed the maintenance guidelines you sent. This gives you some leverage when arguments arise.
